Registering Your Business with OkTAP

If you’re starting a small business in Oklahoma, you’ll need to familiarize yourself with OkTAP, the Oklahoma Taxpayer Access Point. This is the central site used by business owners to make payments, submit documentation, request refunds, and, crucially, register your business. To get started as an OkTAP user, you’ll need to specify which tax account type you need at the time of registration. These account types vary wildly and will correspond with the type of tax your business will need to collect. The accounts can include:

  • Alcohol Wholesale Tax
  • Cigarette Wholesale Tax
  • Sales Tax
  • Tobacco Wholesale Tax
  • Consumer Use Tax
  • Vendor Use Tax
  • Tire Recycling Fee
  • Mixed Beverage Tax
  • Prepaid Wireless Tax
  • Telephone Surcharge Tax
  • Vehicle Rental Tax
  • Lodging Tax
  • Rural Electric Tax
  • Withholding Tax
  • Non Resident Royalty Withholding Tax
  • Pass Through Withholding Tax
  • Franchise Tax
  • Rural Electric Co-Op License

Once you’ve determined the type of account you need to open, you’ll need some information to register with OkTAP. This includes your Account ID, FEIN or SSN, email address, and zip code. Once you have everything, you’ll be ready to start getting into the state accounting part of your small business.

Looking Forward

If you’re in the process of starting a small business, you’ll need to familiarize yourself with Oklahoma business tax forms. While OkTAP is a great resource for figuring out what you need, the site can only do so much in terms of tax preparation. The best way to get ahead of form filing? Building a robust database comprising employee information, payroll records, and tax tables. Investing in a semi-automated payroll software is a near necessary step to take on the road to starting a business.

How We Can Help

AMS Software for Payroll is our semi-automated payroll software, and it has everything your small business needs to stay on top of tax and wage reporting. • Creates an SSN Verification file
  • Easy Payer and Employee Setup
  • Automatic saving feature ensures data is never lost
