Effective beginning with 1099-etc for 2020, Advanced Micro Solutions will no longer be able to support updates to the Puerto Rico tax tables and forms and they will no longer be part of 1099-etc. If you use 1099-etc to provide payroll or form preparation and filing services for your business or your clients that involve calculations and forms to be submitted to employers and employees in Puerto Rico or the Puerto Rican government, you will not be able to do so for 2020.
Our forms developer made a decision to no longer develop the Puerto Rico forms due, in part, to the fees for acquiring approval on the forms which are not a requirement of any other location or entity. Since they are not going to be developing the forms, we are, unfortunately, no longer able to provide a solution to you that will help you meet your Puerto Rico payroll processing and filing requirements. We have looked at other methods of continuing support for Puerto Rico, but we were not able to come up with one that makes sense for us or for you. We value our customers and greatly appreciate your business which is why we have made this decision. You deserve a product that will help you meet the requirements as much as possible. We are not able to provide you with that product any longer and refuse to offer you an inferior product.
We know it is very short notice and deeply regret having to make the decision at all, but you will still be able to use 1099-etc for 2019 to file your annual and year-end forms for 2019 and to process your first quarter 2020 payroll checks. You will not be able to select PR as a state once the 2020 version is released. When you have found a solution that meets your needs we will work with you to get the information exported from 1099-etc so that you can import it into your new system.
For those of you who use the program for other services in addition to Puerto Rico payroll and form filing, we will continue to produce a product that will meet those needs. If you use 1099-etc for after-the-fact paycheck entry and printing, you may continue to do so; there will be no change to you if you only import or enter all check values or have the software calculate everything but the Puerto Rico withholdings, print paychecks and create files for direct deposit of employee wages. Customers who use the program for W-2s, 1099s, 1042-S forms, Affordable Care Act filing, unemployment for the 50 states and Washington D.C., state withholding for the 41 states that have it and Washington D.C., 94X forms, and payroll for the 50 states and Washington D.C. will be able to continue to do so. Puerto Rico tax tables and forms will no longer be updated, but there should be no changes in the support and updating policies of the 50 states and Washington D.C.
We greatly appreciate your business and apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you. For those that only use 1099-etc for Puerto Rico and those that feel that they will need to go with another solution to keep costs low and only have one product rather than multiple products, we would like to thank you for your business. We hope that you are able to find a program that suits the needs of your business/clients more precisely than 1099-etc would have been able to and wish you nothing but the best.
